So you can imagine my excitement when a French restaurant and patisserie opened in Noosa this summer, complete with deli and crêperie, in Weyba Rd, Noosaville. FRENCH SIN is owned by Jean Pierre and Anne Calvert, originally from Montpellier in the South of France, but Noosa residents for the past 11 years. Enjoy premium baked goods, French cheeses, foies gras, oils, vinegars, confits and all traditional French treats right here. Opening hours are 7am-4pm. The Calvert’s French offer is already an established and major attraction at markets in New Farm, Mitchelton, Manly and at Noosa Farmers Market.
I worked for an affluent family in Paris as an au pair in the late 80s and Madame kindly shared her very special and extremely decadent chocolate gateau recipe. It is very simple and totally amazing!
GATEAU AU CHOCOLATE
Add water and sugar to a pot and bring to the boil, stirring, until white and bubbly.
Remove from heat. Break up chocolate and add to this syrup then add diced butter.
Stir till mixture is smooth.
Place flour In a separate bowl and break eggs into it one at a time, stirring till completely combined.
Combine this mixture with chocolate mixture and stir till smooth.
Spoon into a tin lined with baking paper. Bake for 45 minutes at 150 deg C.
Refrigerate and serve slightly chilled with cream or ice-cream.
